Lost Childhood

It was during sixth standard vacation, My father(Appayi) brought him home. He had small eyes, dark colour complexion, but he was handsome. He was be about 3 years elder than me. He was bare footed wearing only one dark grey coloured trouser and kavi coloured pants. His hair was not black, a slight grey coloured which was not oiled and properly cut. Myself and my brother was wondering if my father adopted him, if we want to share the chocolate which my father used to bring for us.
My father found him working in a hotel. He asked him about his family & parents. The boy told him that he had nobody to care. My father asked whether he is coming with him. This is the story behind. My father told us that he will be living with us. His name was Rajkumar, a Tamil boy. But we called him Rajakumaran (Prince in Malayalam) As he had not attended any school, my father send him to one of his friends shop to study welding. He told that it will help him in future for his survival. But one day, he stole my gold chain and ran away. Still I don't know the reason why he did that. What make such children to do such crimes. I haven't seen him again. But I came across many of such children. Each day I used to see at least one.

You may see his small delicate hands making tea in bus stands, bringing your ironed clothes from the dhobi and even at your place sweeping and cleaning some corner of your room quietly. The tears in his eyes dissolved the smile in his face . But did you notice? Or you don't have enough time to turn around and notice these silly things?India is the largest example of a nation plagued by child labour. At a tender age when they should be receiving education crucial to their development, 17 million children in India are trapped in the clutches of exploitation and abuse of child labour. Neglecting by the society, these innocent faces are struggling for their survival. Come together to eradicate this blot on the face of humanity. Empower the future of the nation. Stop Child Labour.

The next time you see them, notice them.

  1. Most of the people really hesitate to help these kids because they are not sure if these kids are trustworthy. As you said the guy in your article Rajakumaran even did "Evil for GooD".
However, we can call CHILDLINE 1098 and can inform about these kids.
